Uniformed groups, local business people, Councillors and volunteers came together today to tackle a growing problem at St. Paul’s Church Hall car park on Black Pits Road in Norden. Over the past few years the shrubs and plants which surround the car park and building had become so overgrown that they were extending across pavements, and blocking access paths.
There was an amazing turnout for this years Remembrance Sunday service at the Norden War Memorial.
The service was noted to be one of the best attended of recent years, with local uniformed groups leading the parade from St. Paul's Church to the memorial gardens. It was a real tribute to our local heroes to see so many local people turned out to show their respects, despite the bad weather. The service was lead by Rev. Joanna Watson and those gathered listened as names were read aloud by local children before the sound of the Last Post rang out through the streets and wreathes were laid by veterans, uniformed groups, Councillors and families.
It has been a sad day in the History of Norden today as our independent Post Office served it's last customer and closed it's doors to the public. Sub-Post Master Michael Walsh has served in the Post Office for over 20 years and before him Kath and Frank Sharp had been familiar faces since the 1970's. After four and a half decades behind the counter, serving the people of Norden, with a smile on their faces (well, Kath at least) we think that this pair deserve every happiness in their retirement and we are sure that everyone will join with us in thanking them for there service and dedication to our village.
From Monday 9th November the new home for Norden's Post Office will be at Norden News, Speaking to owner, Duncan today he said he was looking forward to welcoming people to the new Post Office counter from Monday. He explained that the will be able get all the services they would expect plus extended opening hours and a range of additional items including newspapers, confectionery and basic groceries.
